Mummy & Me
Life with a new baby is joyful and exciting, but can also be overwhelming and isolating. Postnatal yoga supports you in reclaiming your body, after 40 weeks of sharing it with your baby. By strengthening and aligning the body and re-focusing some attention on your own needs, you will be better equipped to make informed and conscious choices as a mother.JUMP TO SCHEDULE
Our Mummy & Me class is an opportunity for new mothers to reconnect with their bodies after birth and to get their strength back. We focus on stretching out problem areas like tense neck & shoulders, restrengthening the abdominals and toning pelvic floor muscles that may have weakened during childbirth.
The class is run by myself and Miriam Muzzell, who is a Birthright Baby Yoga & Baby Massage Instructor. The class begins with yoga for the mums taught by myself and then Miriam teaches the second half, which is when the babies get involved for some focused fun of singing, swinging and stretching.
We have found over the years that having two teachers in the class works really well and if baby is fractious during the first half, Miriam is there to give them attention and if they are sleeping during the second half, I am on hand to do more mum yoga with you. Win win!
It’s a very happy & fun class and an opportunity to meet new mums in the area. Mats & props provided.
The Quaker hall is big, bright & airy, with lots of room for buggies. There is also a free on-site car park.
Babies from 6 weeks. Partners, dads, grandparents also welcome to sit and watch or join in, although numbers currently limited.
Want to write to say how much I enjoy the Mummy & Me class. Love the split between grown up and baby yoga — I’ve found a whole hour for baby is too much for her, and she can get ratty if I do a whole hour for me.
I love this class – it’s very welcoming, the format is relaxed and it’s so nice to have a class that is about you as well as your baby. It quickly became one of our favourite classes whilst on maternity leave! Helen’s yoga is a great mix of gentle stretching and strengthening your body so that you come away feeling energised and refreshed, ready for a cuppa and a chat with the other mums!
I love the class and am so grateful for the care you have for all mums and little ones in the classes. You understand the importance of getting mums moving and feeling confident in their bodies. It’s such a great session and I look forward to it all week
I’d been going to Helen’s pregnancy yoga class which I really enjoyed so it’s been great to be able to continue practicing what I learnt this time with my baby. This is the only class I do that has a focus on the well being of mum as well as baby – gentle yoga for me, rhymes and movement for my baby. There’s a nice, social element and I always leave feeling refreshed, relaxed and like I’ve given some good time and love to both myself and my baby.
This group is great for mums and babies as mums get to exercise and it’s tailored to meet mothers’ body needs. The second half is for the children – me and my son thoroughly enjoy the group and I recommended it to a friend who equally enjoyed it. After the class I feel less stiff and far more energised – it’s a great way to improve your well being, connect with your body, baby and other mums. I would highly recommend this group and look forward to the next class.
My daughter and I love going to Helen’s yoga class. It is a lovely way to relax with my baby and she really enjoys watching me do the yoga! It’s great to stretch out my body and to start trying to get back into shape after having my baby.
The virtual class has helped give me a sense of structure and routine to my week during these strange months in lockdown. The yoga has helped my back a lot, strengthened my core and my body generally after birth, as well as help relax my mind. Summer and I have both loved the baby part, it’s been so much fun and makes Summer so happy. I’ll miss your class and will always remember it as an important part of Summer’s first 8 months!
